Emergency vs. non-emergency

Use the non-emergency number to file a report after the fact, ask a question, follow up on a case, or report a concern that is not urgent. Services

  • Patrol & response throughout the city and its extraterritorial area.
  • Criminal investigation and follow-up on reported crimes.
  • Traffic enforcement on city streets and the IH-35 corridor.
  • Records & reports — request a copy of an incident, accident, or offense report at the department; some records may require a written request and a small fee.
  • Animal services — loose, stray, or nuisance animals, and bite reports.
  • Code enforcement — junk vehicles, high grass and weeds, and other city-code violations.

Requesting a report or record

If you were involved in a traffic crash or need a copy of a police report for insurance or court, contact the department during office hours to ask how to obtain it. Have the date, location, and any case or report number ready to speed up the request. Texas crash reports may also be available through the state’s crash-report system.

Animal services & code enforcement

To report a stray or aggressive animal, an animal bite, or a code-enforcement issue such as an abandoned vehicle or overgrown lot, call the non-emergency line. For an animal that is an immediate danger to people, call 911.
